Halymenia durvillei, commonly known as “Dragon’s Breath”, is one of the most striking macroalgae species available for marine aquariums. Its translucent, flame-shaped blades glow in vibrant shades of red, orange, and crimson under reef lighting, creating a dramatic visual effect reminiscent of flickering flames.
Besides its impressive appearance, Dragon’s Breath also contributes to natural nutrient control, as it absorbs nitrate and phosphate from the water. This makes it an excellent addition to reef aquariums, refugiums, and macroalgae displays.

The beautiful red macroalgae Halymenia durvillei originates from tropical marine environments and is widely appreciated for its unique flame-like leaf structure. The soft, flowing blades gently move with the current, adding natural movement and color to the aquarium.
Under blue reef lighting, Dragon’s Breath displays particularly intense coloration. The blades can appear deep red, glowing orange, or even slightly golden depending on lighting and nutrient conditions.
