Biodegradable trickling filter media for reducing nitrate and phosphate levels

NP-BACTO-TRICKS provide an effective means of reducing the levels of nitrate and phosphate in aquariums by acting as trickling filter media. NP-BACTO-TRICKS consist of a mixture of natural biopolymers, which are removed by bacteria and other aerobic microorganisms. As they grow, they extract nitrate and phosphate from the water and thus produce valuable biomass, which serves as food for filter feeders or can be skimmed off.

For the application of NP-BACTO-TRICKS, Tropic Marin® has developed and designed the ventilated BIO-ACTIF REACTOR 5000 system, which ensures an optimum supply of oxygen for the reduction of nutrients.

How to use:

NP-BACTO-TRICKS are suitable for use in ventilated bioreactor systems. For the application of NP-BACTO-TRICKS, Tropic Marin® has developed and designed the ventilated BIO-ACTIF REACTOR 5000 system, which ensures an optimum supply of oxygen for the reduction of nutrients.

Start with 100 ml of NP-BACTO-TRICKS per 100 l / 25 Gal. of aquarium water. Double the dosage of NP-BACTO-TRICKS if needed after 4 weeks. You should not use more than 400 ml per 100 l / 25 Gal. of aquarium water. Heavy skimming of aquarium water is highly beneficial and helps to remove excess produced biomass and thus nitrate and phosphate from the biological aquarium cycle. For this process to work effectively, the outlet of the ventilated bioreactor system should be installed nearby the inlet of the skimmer.

Should the NP-BACTO-TRICKS become clogged during the degradation process or due to detritus from the aquarium, you can rinse and wash the NP-BACTO-TRICKS with aquarium water in a plastic container and afterwards loosely place them in the filter again. We recommend to top up the NP-BACTO-TRICKS once a month to replace any degraded material.
