Natural clinoptilolite for ammonium and phosphate binding
Natural filter medium based on clinoptilolite, which adsorbs mainly ammonium (NH4) before it is oxidized in the nitrification chain to nitrite and nitrate. Thus, the nitrate content in the aquarium system can be lowered easily and safely. In addition, iron and manganese inclusions in zeolith purum are potentially capable of binding phosphate in the long term. The zeolite surface is constantly abraded by water flow, producing colloidal zeolite fractions that are bound with ammonium and phosphate and can accumulate other turbidity and waste materials. The attrition can be effectively skimmed off, finally exporting ammonium and phosphate from the system.
Recommended dosage:
zeolith purum should be used in a fluidized bed or zeolite filter process. The NO3 and PO4 content must be determined before use!
Initially 100 mL zeolith purum per 100 L aquarium volume are added to a filter unit. Adjust the water flow to approx. 500 L/h per 1 L filter volume. To check, collect the outlet water for 1 minute and multiply by 60. After one week, the zeolite quantity can be increased to 200
mL/100 L can be increased. The maximum volume per 100 L should not exceed 400 mL. Remove sediment and detritus deposits daily. Replace approx. 2/3 of the zeolite purum used after 2 months.
zeolith purum is available in grain sizes 8 - 16 mm and 5 - 8 mm.
Available in 1000 mL and 2500 mL containers.
