• Iodine occurs in nature in various forms.
• Organic and inorganic forms are known, and there are many intermediate forms.
• For us aquarists, only the three inorganic forms of iodine are relevant: iodine and the oxidation forms iodide and iodate.
• The largest proportion of iodine in an aquarium is present as iodate, because even elemental iodine added to the aquarium water oxidizes to iodate in the alkaline and oxygen-rich environment of seawater. UV radiation and ozone accelerate this process.
• Coral and biofilms can absorb all forms of iodine, so it does not matter which form is added.
• All iodine compounds together amount to approx. 60 µg/l. In the aquarium, the iodine value should be set between 60–80 µg/l.

ELEMENTALS TRACE I is a highly concentrated Iodine solution for saltwater aquariums to individually compensate for existing iodine deficiencies.

Unlike major elements such as calcium, magnesium, or potassium, trace elements are elements that are present in seawater in concentrations lower than 1 mg/l. These include, for example, copper, chromium, manganese, and selenium, but also iron, iodine, and zinc.

Trace elements can be contained in many different substances and thus also enter the aquarium water; However, despite the low concentration required in the water, a deficiency can cause significant problems.
