How a hw® UV water clarifier works:
In a closed irradiation chamber, the aquarium water is passed directly to an artificial, highly intensive UV-C radiation source. In this case, the bacterial microorganisms, water mist and floating algae in the water are irradiated with UV-C radiation so intensively that they are directly killed or are no longer capable of cell division and die.
The hw® UV water clarifier With the hw UV-C water clarification, only the aquarium water flowing through the special glass jacket is exposed to the germicidal effect of the UV-C light. Hw® UV water clarifiers are a special construction, which has proved itself more than 100,000 times in research facilities, in the commercial sector as well as in ambitious hobby aquaristics. Due to the extremely large contact surface to the direct UV-C radiation source in conjunction with a low layer thickness (3 to 4 mm) of the water to be irradiated, such an intense irradiation is achieved which otherwise would only be achieved by devices with almost twice as high wattages ,
The special glass jacket used acts as a UV-C radiation reflector, which throws the UV-C radiation back into the irradiation chamber. In this way, the intensity of the irradiation is again significantly increased and an increased power yield is realized. At the same time, the special glass jacket allows an exact function check of the UV-C burner as well as a condition control of the irradiation chamber. The visible light, which penetrates to the outside, is completely filtered out and completely harmless (corresponding to the light emission of a normal neon fluorescent tube ...).
When UV-C irradiation is carried out, constantly sterilized water from the hw®-UV water clarifier mixes with germ-rich water from the aquarium (nitrification bacteria in the filter and in the bottom of the aquarium are not damaged by the UV-C irradiation). This is not a complete "sterilization" of the entire aquarium water but a strong germ reduction (maximum germ reduction in the entire aquarium system approx. 98%) of the aquarium water.
This circumstance is extremely important and necessary, because the remaining germs in the water (about 2 to 3%) maintain the antibody production of the fish against pathogens and strengthen their immune system. In the mini-ecosystem aquarium, the microbial load is much higher than in nature due to the limited water volume without hw® UV water clarifier and causes an extremely heavy load on the aquarium system. Hw® UV water clarifiers effect a natural balance here and create near-natural conditions in the aquarium.
