Choose CaribSea Aragonite in a variety of shapes, particle sizes and grain sizes to suit your needs. Substrates offset with a few larger pieces of reef sand and small shells recreate the typical "boulder/tide zone" of Caribbean reefs. Aragonite - unique sand from nature

Aragonite occurs as a pure natural product on the Bahama Banks, where it is formed by the metabolism of algae and bacteria. It precipitates as a result of a biochemical process and floats above the Bahama Banks, where it sinks to the seabed. Each year, nearly 2 billion kilograms of new aragonite is created in this way. In the natural form we offer, aragonite is a thoroughly sustainable product.
Why oolitic sand is ideal for the ecosystem in your aquarium

With aragonite sand, you create the best conditions in your marine aquarium for its inhabitants to feel comfortable, thrive and stay healthy. That's because it has something crucial that calcite or dolomite don't: Its natural oolitic (egg-shaped) grain size makes this sand pleasantly soft. Therefore, aragonite sand is suitable for burrowing animals, such as gobies, firecrackers and sea cucumbers. But also stony corals and "difficult" plants, such as tall seagrass, grow particularly well in it. The natural, round-ground reef sand is ideal for "Deep Sand Bed" (DSB) methods.

The highly porous aragonite is available in different grain sizes, with the smallest grains below one millimeter.
