Phosphate is an end product of the decomposition of organic matter such as food residues, fish excretions, etc. and can cause algae growth. Although PO43 values should be as low as possible, values up to 0.5 mg/l are tolerable. Caution. Phosphate has a tendency to form poorly soluble salts that settle to the bottom with the mulm.
