Salifert Profi Test Calcium

Product no.: 00472

Very popular titration test for the determination of calcium content in marine aquariums.

Requires 2 mL sample water. When used with only 1 mL sample water, the amount of test reagent is halved, doubling the number of possible applications to approximately 100. Very economical test!

approx. 50 - 100 tests (depending on dilution)

Operating instructions for Salifert PROFI - TEST CALCIUM:

The calcium test is suitable for saltwater, freshwater, water from garden ponds and water from freshwater aquariums.

WARNING

The reagent from the Ca - 2 bottle contains sodium hydroxide and is highly irritating to skin and eyes. In case of contact with skin, wash with plenty of water. If the reagent gets into the eyes, rinse them immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice immediately; the same applies after swallowing the reagent.

Keep out of reach of children. Not suitable for consumption.

TEST PROCEDURE

1) Using the 2 ml syringe, pipette 2 ml of the water to be tested into the test vessel.

If you have decided to use the deeper method and thus obtain more tests per pack, use only 1 ml instead of 2 ml of test water.

2) Add a level spoonful of Ca-1 (deeper application use approximately ½ spoonful ) DO NOT mix.

3.) Attach the plastic tip firmly to the 1.0 ml syringe and draw up the reagent from the Ca-2 bottle ( Make sure that the plastic tip is completely immersed in the reagent Ca-2 while drawing up ) until the bottom of the black ring in the flask is exactly at the 1.00 ml mark. There will be a little air in the flask. This is the air that was present between the plastic tip and the flask at the beginning. This does not affect the test result.

4) Add 0.6 ml of the CA-2 reagent at a time until the bottom of the flask is at approximately 0.4 ml. Swirl for 5 seconds

Drop by drop, using the 1.0 ml syringe, the reagent from the Ca-2 bottle into the test tube. Mix for one to two seconds after each drop. Repeat this until there is a color change from pink to blue.

(Once the color changes to purple about 1-2 more drops are needed to get the blue color).

5) Turn the syringe upside down so that the tip points upwards and determine the position of the black part in the plunger. The reading is now taken at the upper end of the black ring. The syringe is divided into 0.01 ml increments. Read the calcium value from the table.

ATTENTION

If you had decided to use the reduced test, the result must be multiplied additionally by the factor 2.

Note

Natural seawater has a calcium content between 415 - 450 mg / l.

If the test still does not turn blue after the addition of the complete 1.0 ml of Ca-2, the calcium content is above 500 mg / l
