Salifert Profi Test Carbonate/Alkalinity

Product no.: 00477

Super high yield titration test for the determination of carbonate hardness.

Requires 4 mL of sample water. The test can last up to 200 applications if only 2 mL sample water is used instead of 4 mL, halving the amount of test reagents accordingly.

Measuring range 0.3 - 16 °dKH (carbonate hardness) resp. 0.11 - 5.71 meq/L (alkalinity)

approx. 100-200 tests

Instructions for the SalifertKH Alkalinity Profi Test

The KH / Alkalinity test can be used for testing marine and fresh water.
Version November 2010. The colors are stronger and the accuracy has been improved by correcting what in analytical chemistry is called the indicator error or the blank titration. Because of the improvements, the results are even more accurate and one could find a value lower by about 0.3 dKH compared to the previous version. However, this is a more accurate value.
A free reference / check solution is sometimes included. The KH-lnd reagent contains a dye. Avoid spilling the dye on cloth and other materials as they may be stained.
Keep out of reach of children.
INSTRUCTIONS
1] Using the 5 ml syringe, add 4 ml of water to the test vial. For lower resolution and more tests per kit, use 2 ml instead of 4 ml.
2] Shake the KH-Ind bottle a few times before opening, then add 4 drops to the test tube (2 drops for low-resolution mode).
3] Place the plastic tip firmly on the 1 ml syringe and immerse the syringe in the KH reagent (make sure the end on the plastic tip remains immersed in the KH reagent at all times) until the bottom end of the black part of the plunger is right at the 1.00 ml mark. There will be some air directly under the flask. This is the air that was present between the end of the plastic tip and the flask. This will not affect the test result.
4] Using the 1 ml syringe, add the KH reagent to the water in the test tube dropwise (or up to about 80% of the expected amount). Swirl for a second or two after each drop. Add additional drops until the color changes from blue/green to an orange-red or pink color (depending on which color is observed first).
5] Hold the syringe with the tip up and read the position of the black part of the plunger. The syringe has graduations of 0.01 ml. Read the KH alkalinity value from the table.
This batch was tested at various values from about 6.5 to 12 dKH the tolerance was typically + / - 0.2 dKH or less. The resolution of the test kit is 0.3 dKH.
For values above 11 dKH, results may vary by approximately +/- 3%.
If you selected for the lower resolution mode, multiply the result read from the table by 2. Natural seawater has a KH of 7-8 dKH or 2.5 - 2.9 meq / L, which is another unit to express KH / alkalinity.
