Deltec Titanium Earthing Probe

ESSENTIAL for EVERY freshwater or saltwater Aquarium.

Induced current and voltage is found to differing degrees in ALL aquariums, caused by fluorescent lights, UV sterilisers, pumps and other electrical devices.

  • Grounds the water in your aquarium to minimise the possibility of electrocution following the failure of any electrical equipment in contact with the water.
  • Relieves stress on aquarium inhabitants and lateral line disorders on fish caused by unwanted stray voltage.
  • Prevents incorrect readings on pH probes and electrical measuring devices due to induced voltage.

How does a grounding probe (such as the Deltec Titan) help against HLLC?

A high-quality titanium grounding probe safely dissipates stray voltage via the house's protective grounding system without any measurable current flowing (it is only about voltage, not electric shock). This reduces the electric field in the water to practically 0 volts → eliminating the main cause of many HLLC cases. Many aquarists report that existing minor erosion stops worsening after the probe is installed and in some cases even heals.

HLLC = degenerative holes on the head and lateral line caused (among other things) by stray electrical voltage in the water. A titanium grounding probe is now almost standard prevention for sensitive saltwater fish and often the easiest way to prevent or stop HLLC.

If you keep surgeonfish, angelfish, or other “HLLC candidates,” the probe is almost always worthwhile.
